Some production notes:
The key element in this record is the beat which is actually not the break from “The Funky Drummer” but was painstakingly rebuilt to emulate the original beat. The basic production makeup is real strings over the rebuilt break supported by a Juno 106 on the bass. The synth beds are from a Jupiter 8 and the fluttering synth is an Access Virus. The vocal was recorded using a Neumann M149 mic through a GML 2032 mic amp with a Universal Audio 1176 across the insert. This mic is useful in a situation like this for pushing the vocal forward over a quite dense production.
It was mixed using the hybrid system at The Larks Tongue incorporating 3 SSL X-Racks.
